Editorial policy

Last updated: 31 October 2026

Readers plan real trips with our guides, so accuracy matters. Here is how we work.

Research

  • We check facts against official sources first: the Japan National Tourism Organization, prefecture and city tourism boards, and the official websites of shrines, temples, museums and transport operators.
  • Each article lists its key sources at the bottom so you can check them yourself.
  • Where sources disagree, such as visitor numbers or the count of torii gates, we say "about" or "approximately" and use the official figure where one exists.

Writing and AI tools

We use AI tools to help with research and first drafts. A person then reviews, fact-checks and edits every article before it is published, and we take responsibility for everything on the site.

Updates

Each guide shows the date it was last updated. We review popular guides regularly and before each travel season, especially anything involving prices, hours, transport or entry rules.

Independence

Our recommendations are our own. Affiliate partners and advertisers do not see or approve our content before publication. See our affiliate disclosure.
